Information & Updates
0 Minuteman Bikeway Celebration—Septernber 29th 11am—3pm.
Budget &Capital
• The Adams Park accessible path project has been completed.
• The contractor for the Town Pool renovation project remobilized on Tuesday,
September 4th. Work has resumed to correct the deficiencies and unaccepted items.
Staff from DPW, Facilities, and Recreation & Community Programs will meet weekly
with the contractor and architect to review progress and the project is scheduled to be
completed later this fall.
• The feasibility study for the Old Reservoir bathhouse renovation project is ongoing. As
discussed previously, funding for the renovation/addition of the bathhouse will be
requested at Town Meeting in the spring.
• The pre-bid meeting for the lighting upgrade project at the Center Recreation Complex
was held on Wednesday, September 5th. The bid opening is set for Thursday,
September 20th and the project is tentatively scheduled to begin on October 11t.
• Regarding the Center Track and Field renovation project, the first public meeting will be
held this Thursday, September 13th at 6:00pm. The purpose of this meeting is to provide
an overview of the design and layout for the project and begin the discussion with
community members and stakeholders. It will be the first in a series of meetings on this
project.
• The golf equipment at Pine Meadows that was appropriated for FY2019 (tees/fringe
mower, sand bunker rake, and spreader) have been purchased.

Recreation Division:
• A contractor painted blended tennis court lines on all ten Gallagher courts and pickleball
lines on Gallagher#7-10 on Thursday, August 23rd. This was part of a pilot program
offered through the United States Tennis Association (USTA) in which the department
received a grant of$3500.
• All in-house summer day camps, sports clinics, youth tennis programs, and swim lessons
ended on Friday, August 17th. Overall, it was a successful summer, due in large part to
our outstanding staff and volunteers. In total, approximately 140 staff members and
over 45 volunteers contributed to the success of the summer programs!
• The end-of-summer celebration at the Town Pool was held on Saturday, September 11t
The event included free admission for Lexington residents, daily admission for non-
residents, and a DJ led various games and activities throughout the afternoon. The
event went well and was in place of the grand re-opening that was cancelled earlier in
the summer. The Town Pool dosed for the season on Labor Day, Monday, September
3rd and the Old Reservoir closed for the season on Sunday, August 19tH
• Registration for fall programs began on Monday,August 20th and the first day generated
approximately $75,000 in revenue. In addition to fall programs, winter programs that
opened for registration on that day include the youth basketball leagues and clinics and
ski/snowboard programs at Nashoba Valley.
• The NFL Flag Football League began this past Sunday, September 9th. This program,
which is for ages 5-14, is in its 11th season and is coordinated by our Recreation
Supervisor,Tyler Radicioni. This season,there are 38 teams and a total of 403
participants. There are also 81 volunteer coaches and 27 staff that are helping to
support the program as well.
• Due to its continuing growth in popularity, a second session for both our beginner
pickleball and advanced beginner/intermediate pickleball programs will be offered this
fall.
• The Battle Green Tennis League season concluded on Thursday, September 6th. All
tennis courts will remain open through the end of October.
• Staff will be working on the Department's proposed FY2020 operating budget over the
next month.
Community Center
Programming:
• Over the 8 weeks of summer (June 25-August 20, no July 4 week) the LCC ran 31 half
and/or full day program with a total of 268 participants. The programs were a mix of
chess, movie making, STEAM, Minecraft, and computer programming themed.
• The End of the Summer Party had an estimated 300 in attendance. Sponsors of the
event included the Lexington Lions, Police, Russian School of Math, CARL, Rotary Club,
and Lexington Human Services. Despite the rain, participants enjoyed both indoor and
outdoor activities, including a full house for the evening showing of Coco.
• A Teen Interview Workshop was scheduled for the evening of August 29. Due to
interest, the max was increased to 25 and there were additional students placed on a
wait list.
• Surveys were sent out each week to evaluate the summer youth programs. Many
responses were returned with good information and suggestions for improvement next
year. An adults Health and Wellness survey was also sent to summer participants for
feedback at the close of the season.
• We launched Instagram on July 2 with the help of our summer intern Cal; it is off to a
great start @lexrecreation
• Fall programming begins this week for afterschool enrichment and adult health and
wellness classes.
• Some new programs that will be offered this fall are FRESH (Friday Recreation & Social
Hangout), Coding with Kids, Young Rembrandts, Adult Fencing, Adaptive Zumba, Karate
for Seniors, Drop-in Collage Art, Launching Emerging Adults and trips to Italy and Alaska
in cooperation with Collette travel.
Facility & Services:
• A "cradle" has been added to the Clavinova piano which will allow for safe movement of
the valuable instrument.
• We will be re-surfacing the billiards tables on Friday, 9/14
• Three new handicap accessible parking spaces have been lined and added in the rear of
the building to accommodate increased demand.
