I. Welcome and Introductions
❖ Welcome from Jenny Corduck

❖ Overview of Jenny Corduck's transition
❖ Two new teachers hired: Olivia Downey, LLP teacher
Julie Gallardo, Fifth Grade teacher
Welcomed back Francine Hannan and Catherine Costa as Special Education
reading teachers
❖ Four new Kindergarten Assistants hired
❖ Several new Instructional assistants hired

-:• Overview of the different roles of Kindergarten Assistants, Instructional assistants
and SSPs
❖ Update on work with staff around norm development
❖ Question, was there any surprises coming in about the norms? - No, air time,
collaboration, take risks, trust each other, confidentiality. Norms will be on each
staff meeting agenda as a review
❖ Realized that Beth Glick can't be an active member as Site council rules outline
that two administrators can't sit on Site Council.
❖ How to report out at PTA about major Site Council discussions
❖ Community members are welcome and agenda is posted online.
Jenny Corduck will do some outreach via the Lexington Minuteman to ask for a
community member to join the Bowman Site Council
❖ Jenny Corduck shared what she has found in her experience working with
previous Site Councils in Melrose.
❖ As the only full time Administrator in her previous principalships, she was able to
go to site council as a first go to when solving problems and deciding on next
steps. The small group allowed for a small group to discuss how to solve a
problem and create traction going forward.
❖ Example shared from one of her past schools about sitting with Site Council
around looking at data and how to improve scores as well as how to deal with
behavioral issues. Learned to rely heavily on the feedback received from site
council and next steps to solve different problems
❖ District presently doesn't have a Strategic plan. Dr. Hackett is interested in
creating a Strategic plan.
Alison Stevens shared that Site Council members would like to be able to share
the skills they bring from their professional lives.
Jenny Corduck shared that students are number one and knowing what parents
are experiencing is extremely important. Site Council is a place to share these
ideas.
III. Review of the FY 19 SIP
❖ Jenny Corduck is used to using an accelerated two year School Improvement
plan.
Also used to being able to quantify an area and say if it has happened.
❖ First goal is around academics- Jenny Corduck shared her work in meeting with
Linda Menkis, Kathy McCarthy and the Bowman Dismantling Racism Leadership
Team around the different areas in the SIP.
Student Learning Goal will be around Math or Literacy based on the students are
in front of them and the Professional Practice Goal will be focused on
Dismantling Racism.
Alison Stevens asked that the Student Learning Goals be shared with Site
Council
Discussion of What a Student Learning Goal and Professional Practice Goal is
as well as the Self Assessment completed with actionable steps spelled out by
staff to make their goal a reality. Evidence is also provided for each standard
and goals.
❖ Overview of Supervision and Evaluation provided by Jenny Corduck for site
council.
Discussion of how goals are established
Discussion of four observations each year, accountability of the new supervision
and evaluation model and conversations impacting student learning.
❖ Melinda Webster Loof shared that the feedback for supervision and evaluation
has been helpful
❖ Helpful to share with site council what group goals look like
❖ Building coaches are instrumental in helping staff meet their goals.
❖ Question asked to parents Is there any particular area of the school improvement
plan that speaks to you? Alison Stevens shared that Professional Learning,
collaboration and lab Wednesdays to learn from each other. Would love to have
an update about professional learning and the practical. What are teams focusing
on, what do you think you will continue, push harder on and change. Seth
Moeller seconded the professional learning for staff is so important. It shows up
with the students.
Jenny Corduck shared she is looking at MCAS and would love to share that
information with Site council. Overall terrific scores and growth. High needs
students is an area that needs work.
