ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and
evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.)
One of the first houses to be built on the street, this is a well-
preserved example of late-nineteenth-century picture saque architecture typical
of a number of areas of Lexington. Features include. shaped triple window in
the gable with columns, angled window at the corner with scrolled frieze and
drop above, palladian window and deep console brackets on the overhanging
portion of the gable.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state

The house was built by Walter_W. Rowse, who was in the, dye stuffs and
chemicals business in Boston.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
On November 29, 1895 the Lexington Minute-man announced the construction of this house:
The frame work has already been put in place for a new house building on the upper rise of the street on the right
hand side,the owner of which is Mr. Walter Rowse, of Chelsea. The estimated value of the hosue is $4,000, and
Hawkins&Mitchell the builders.
The house was apparently being constructed in anticipation of Rowse's upcoming nuptials to Ada Holt which were held
in June 1896. Walter and Ada Holt were still living here in 1942.
