MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL COMMISSION Area(s) Form No. MASSACHUSETTS ARCHIVES BUILDING 468 220 MORRISSEY BOULEVARD BOSTON,MASSACHUSETTS 02125 HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: On February 7, 1903 the Lexington Minute-man reported that: Deeds have passed conveying title to the new estate fronting on Winthrop road, Lexington, consisting of a most attractive modern house of eleven rooms, owned by Mr. F.F. Sherburne,to Frank Watson, of Philadelphia. The whole property was valued at$7,000, and the lot of land contains 16,000 square feet. It appears that Sherburne constructed the house on a speculative basis. He lived at 1508 Massachusetts Avenue and was responsible for laying out Winthrop Road about 1893. A short time after construction, the house was expanded. On April 23, 1904,the Minute-man noted that"The house on Winthrop road owned by Mrs. A.E. Watson, is having a second story added to the ell". In 1910 the Watson household consisted of 39 year old Frank, a mechanical engineer, his wife Ethel, his mother Anna E. Watson, age 74, his sister Melissa and a servant. Members of the Watson family continued to occupy the house until about 1926. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Lexington Directories, various dates. Lexington Minute-Man, Feb. 7, 1903; April 23, 1904.
