(Staple additional sheets here) ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.) This Shingle Style house is the only one of its style in the section of Lexington south of Marrett Road and west of Waltham Street. The large fieldstones used in the foundation are repeated in the porch piers and arch; the porch has an eyelid-type roof. The gambrel-roofed cross gable has an unusual sawtooth-like detail applied over the bay window; sash windows are generally six/one. The barn associated with the house retains what appears to be its original shingles. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) This house first appears on the 1906 map and that, plus the fact that the other Shingle Style houses in Lexington were built in the 1890s, suggeststhe latter as a probable date of construction. In 1906 it was owned by the Messerlis, who were farmers. 4 , F- -- BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES (n 1889 map 1906 map 10M - 7/82
