This house and the two immediately southwest were built on land belonging
to Francis Howland Holmes, a real estate dealer and son of Dr. Howland Holmes
who practiced medicine for many years at the corner of Waltham Street and
Massachusetts Avenue. Holmes, the newspaper noted, opened up the part of the
family estate on Waltham Street for building in 1895. By 1906 the house was
owned by A.E. Gould.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
The original owner of this house, Henry T. Goold died at his home on Waltham Street July 27, 1906 at the age of 54. He
was born in Littleton,New Hampshire and was a resident of Woburn for 25 years before moving to Lexington in
November 1897. Until 1904 he worked in the Boston office of the Frank Jones Brewing Co. and was assistant treasurer
of the corporation. The Goold family appears to have moved shortly after Henry's death.
