ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and
evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.)
According to a 1909 plan, this building seems tQ have been originally
the portion of the carriage house complex labeled shed, hen house, and dwelling.
A simple structure, it nevertheless echoes the design of the carriage house it
once abutted, in the broad arch on the facade.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state
history and how the building relates to the development of the community.)
This building was constructed as part o-f an outbuilding complex on the
3enamin T. Brown estate, one of Lexington's most elaborate properties in the
late nineteenth century. The property was sold by Hallie Blake in 1925 to
t°es:'_ey Wadrlan. C. 1925, this building_, previously attached to the carriage
rouse (now a residence at i5 Patriots Drive) , was separated, moved back to its
present location, placed on a basement, and remodeled as a dwelling.
