(Staple additional sheets here) ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.) This is a gambrel-roofed Colonial Revival 'house which combines a patterned shingled surface (every fifth row of shingles has a verW narrow weather) with an unusual central Pavilion. The pavilion, however, represents an alteration to the original design. As first constructed and pictured in Willard Brown's albur., the house had a sin.:ple pediraented cortico. The portico was enclosed sometime later and a second-store rectangular baw window with se7.ientally-arched roof were added above. The entablature of the aortico was extended around the (see Continuation Sheet) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) The area of Slocum, Road was part of the estate of Lewis Hunt, hardware merchant, who moved to Lexington in 1864 and acquired much real estate. Slocum: was Hunt's mother's r::aiden name. The house at 22 Slocum Road is included in :Millard Brown's album of plans and nhotographs of his works in the rossession of the Lexington Historical Society. This highly original bay window may well have been designed by Willard Brown, too. It is characteristic of his highly original style.
