ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of the building in terms of other buildings within the
community.
Constructed in 1931,the Gleason House(MHC#1114)is a 1 1/2-story dwelling displaying an L-shaped plan and capped by
a steeply-pitched, asphalt-shingled gable roof The house is set on a fieldstone foundation and most of the exterior is sheathed
in a distinctive live edge wood siding which found limited popularity in the 1930s. The main entrance is located in a three-
sided, conical roofed vestibule at the junction of the two sections and contains an arched wooden door. The entrance is
fronted by a stone stoop and steps. An exterior stone fireplace is located at the end of the longer section, near the glazed
sunporch which rests on a stone foundation. Windows include 6/6 sash and doublehung windows displaying diamond panes
in the upper sash over a single light lower sash. There is a hip dormer above the entrance and a wood-shingled shed dormer
has been added at the rear of the house.
The house is set uphill on a wooded lot behind 15 Robbins Road. Across from the house is a gablefront garage (MHC
#1115),also clad in live edge wood siding and set on a concrete foundation. The original garage doors are stored inside the
garage. Each panel displays 3 x 2-lights over two vertical panels. Remaining fenestration consists of 6/1 windows.
About fifty feet from the house at the top of the hill in the back yard are the remains of the East Lexington stone water tower.
