In 1964 the School Committee voted to build a new elementary school on Moreland Avenue because of the need for classroom
space in the eastern part of town. The school was built according to the same plan as the Bridge Elementary School at 55
Middleby Road which was constructed at the same time.
The Bowman School was designed by the architectural firm of Clinch, Crimp,Brown&Fisher. The firm also designed other
schools in Lexington including the Fiske School, Estabrook School and Bridge School.
