ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and

This cottage, built at the same time as the house at 14 Percy Road, has
a prominent gambrel roof with broad overhang like the main house, but is
otherwise a much simpler structure.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in localor state
history and how the building relates to the development of the community.)
This cottage was built by Col. Charles C.G. Thornton for his niece at
the same time as he built a house for himself adjacent at 14 Percy Road.
Both houses were built by contractor Day of Magnolia. Before 1889, Colonel
Thornton died and his widow moved to the cottage.
