BUILDING FORM ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION ❑ see continuation sheet Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. 63 Paul Revere Rd. is one of several front-facing L-shaped Italianate farmhouses in Lexington;this one is exceptionally well- preserved, still has its associated barn, and, thanks to its setting, retains a sense of its agricultural past. The house(MHC#690) is two stories and cross-gabled with front and ridge chimneys. It is set on a fieldstone foundation, clad with wood clapboards, and roofed with asphalt shingles. On the south gable end is a small gabled covered entry and on the west elevation is a one-story shed- roofed addition on a concrete block foundation. The main entry is in the reentrant angle under a porch with turned posts and balusters;windows are 2/1 double hung sash. The large 1'/-story,four-by-two bays, side-gabled barn(MHC#691)is on a fieldstone foundation, clad with wood shingles, and has two very large barn doors. The stall area, the only one visible through a window, appears to be of post and beam construction but the owner stated that the rest of the barn was balloon frame. At the back of the property is a large three-bay car(actually truck-size)port. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE ❑ see continuation sheet Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. Lexington assessors' records indicate that this house was built in 1878 by Ann Reynolds and her husband Patrick, who had purchased the five acres on which it was then located in 1877. Paul Revere Rd. is an old road but was not actually laid out as a street until the 20th century, so the house was probably reached from either Columbus St. or Massachusetts Ave.,which is why it faces toward those streets rather than Paul Revere Rd. The barn was built in 1883, a period when post and beam barns were still being built in Lexington(see 160 Wood St. [MHC#694] form).
