BUILDING FORM (2151 Mass. Ave.)
ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of the building in terms of other buildings within the
community.
A good example of 20th century Colonial Revival architecture, 2151 Massachusetts Avenue is a two-story, clapboarded
dwelling which is capped by an asphalt-shingled hip roof. A painted brick chimney emerges near the west ridge with an
additional exterior chimney emerging from the west end. The house rests on a brick foundation. Centered on the five-bay
facade, the six panel wooden door is flanked by partial sidelights and capped by a semi-elliptical, divided fanlight with central
keystone. The shape of the fanlight is echoed in the underside of the gabled porch which is supported by a pair of Roman
Doric columns above a brick stoop. The predominant window is a 8/12 doublehung sash set in a molded surround. Above
the entrance is a casement window containing a pair of 3 x 4 panels. The tops of the second story windows extend to a plain
frieze under the eaves which project slightly.
The west side of the house is spanned by a single-story open porch supported by four Roman Doric columns. A multi-light
glass door leads inside. On the east elevation there is a rectangular bay window capped by a hip roof and additional casement
windows. A porch partially spans the rear elevation.
To the northeast of the house is a modern,two-car,gablefront garage. The building is clapboarded with a shingled roof and
6/6 windows on the side elevations.
Twj large maples are located in the front yard.

This house was constructed for Turner and Laura Kelley in 1920. The 1920 Lexington Val tion List indicates that in that
year Laura Kelley of 82 Bedford Street was assessed for"Lots B & C of the Kimball land". The following year she was
assessed for a house valued at$8,000 at 617 Mass. Avenue(the house was renumbered 2151 Mass. Ave. about 1930). The
garage was apparently constructed several years later. Directories indicate that Turner Kelley was employed as a broker.
The Kelleys continued to live here until the 1940s. Later owners included Florence and Thomas Connors in the early 1950s
and George and Ruth Nonnemaker c.1960.
