Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The original building on this site was a three story, wooden frame structure with retail stores at street level and apartments above. It was built in 1874 by John L. Norris, contractor. Originally, the floor level of the stores was several feet above street level and access was gained by mounting four steps to all the shops. In 1924 the entire building was lowered 3 feet to bring the stores to street level. In the early 1900s the Depot Square end of the block contained a hotel/roominghouse. S.
