Descrip: door Greek Revival wide entablature; side pilasters flanking side lights; panels
beneath lights with inset ornamental panels. Porch across front, lst, floor level only,
square posts, dentil course across porch cornice, mini-dentils on posts at capitals.

Former home of Charles A. Butters and of his son, Frank Viles Butters
(see Hudson, Volume II) . C.A. Butters was in the grocery business in Lexington
Center in the block now numbered 1768 Massachusetts Avenue. C.A. Butters
married Sarah Ann Viles, whose father owned land in this vicinity (see history
of Meriam-Viles house, now 37 Woburn Street) . He married in 1834.
