ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION:
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community.
Located at the southwest corner of Kendall Road and Marrett Road,274 Marrett Road is a 1 ''/2-story, side-gabled dwelling
resting on a mortared stone foundation. The building is presently sheathed in vinyl siding and the gable roof extends to cover
what may have originally been an open porch. The eave overhang features decorative beams at the peak and base of the gable.
A shed dormer with exposed rafter tails projects from the front roof slope and a shed dormer also spans the rear slope. The
predominant window is a 6/1 sash; some of the windows are modern replacements.
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE
Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state)history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the
owners/occupants played within the community.
There is no house on this site at the time of the 1906 map. It appears to have been constructed as part of the Farmhurst
subdivision, which was originally laid out in 1923 by developer Neil McIntosh. This was lots C &D of the Resubdivision of
Part of Section 3 of the Farmhurst Subdivision, Oct. 1927 addition.
In 1942 the house was occupied by Mark Lesper. Constance Thompson sold the property to Richard and Wilhelmina Dolbear in
1956 and it remained in the Dolbear family for forty years.
