ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION:
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community.
The house at 1 Malt Lane is an early 20th century Craftsman cottage displaying a jerkinhead roof and gable dormer finished with
exposed rafter tails. The dwelling is sheathed in wood shingles and rests on a mortared stone foundation. The offcenter entrance
and adjacent window are sheltered by a hip-roofed porch supported by plain posts with a simple stick balustrade. Windows
contain modern 1/1 sash. Behind the house is a modern detached garage.
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE

owners/occupants played within the community.
This house was originally known as 225 Marrett Road. It was constructed c.1910 for Richard J. Burke (b. 1872)and his wife
Katherine. He was a plumber. Richard Burke was still living here in 1942.
The property is still owned by members of the Burke family today. Malt Lane was laid out about 1980 and has four modern
dwellings in addition to this house.
