Seasholes Setting In a small group of mansard Organization Lexington Historical Commission cottages at the south end of Forest Street. Date April, 1984 (Staple additional sheets here) ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.) This cottage retains its original finishes. Features include roof with patterned slates and dormer windows with broadly projecting roofs; bay window; paired brackets at the eaves; and a porch with turned posts. The design of this house is identical with that of the Mansard cottages on Hancock Avenue, except that this one has a porch rather than a door hood. It is, like the others, a simplified version of Mansard cottage depicted in A.J. Bicknell's Bicknell's Village Builder of 1872. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) Bike most of the other Tansard cottages along this section of Forest Street, this house appears to have been built as a rental property: the owner from the tire of its construction until the turn of the century was George H. Jackson, one of the largest property owners in this section of town. In 1906 the house was owned by Charles T. West, the undertaker who owned the house next door (see 5 Forest Street form) , so perhaps it continued to be rented.
