ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and
evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.)
This substantial Italianate house retains its oricinal trip.. Decorative
features include a round-headed window in the gable; broad eaves and returns;
broad molded frieze boards; a pilaster-like treatment of the dormer window on------
the
n ----the left hand side; an entrance porch with chamfered square hosts; and a side
porch with chamfered posts. The Chippendale balustrade across the front and-_-----
right side porch is probable a later addition to the structure.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local dr state
history and how the building relates to the development of the community.)
This house was built in 1872 by David A. Tuttle, a nro=inent nineteenth-
century Lexington builder, for F.F. Raymond, one o the developers of the
Clarke/Raymond streets area. By 1889 the house was owned by the heirs of Larkin.
Harrington and remained in the Harrincton fa-ily for r;any years. In the twenti-
eth centur',7 this house was the residence of Fred Piper, a local physician who
was veru active in the Historical Societe.
