HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-04-08MINUTES OF APRIL 8, 1999 Town of Lexington Historic Districts Commission Commissioners in attendance: Ian Adamson, Mark DiNapoli, Joann Gschwendtner, Lynn Hopkins and Steve Politi; Associate Commissioners: Elaine Doran, and Eleanor MacQueen. Minutes of March 4, 199 meeting were approved with a spelling correction. PETITIONS HEARD: 846 Massachusetts Avenue — Katherine Kiefer presented plans of the renovation of an office store front. The door treatment and lights were approved. Certificate 99C -14. 1083 Massachusetts Avenue — Fred Shoemaker, representing Ann Horton, received formal approval of the true divided light window with an outside energy panel which he had brought in to the last meeting. Certificate 99C -15. 37 Hancock Street — Henry and Janice Camp's re- roofing job was approved pending Ian Adamson's approval of the flashing treatment. Certificate 99C -16. 16 Clarke Street - David McBride, representing Lexington Medical Condominiums, presented plans for replacing the blue stone landing with concrete, continuing it into the vestibule. Certificate 99C -17. 1734 Massachusetts Avenue — Artinian Jewelry - Susan Muller from Custom Signs presented plans for a sign for utilizing vinyl lettering. The hearing was continued to allow a revised sign and to allow Hermine Artinian to present her plans for treatment of the storefront. The Commission felt that a temporary banner could be used until a permanent sign is approved and installed. 1666 Massachusetts Avenue — Sharon Spaulding received approval of signs for Custom Care Hearing Aid Center. Certificate 99C -18. 1656 Massachusetts Avenue — Sharon Spaulding received approval of a street number sign. Certificate 99C -19. 1749 Massachusetts Avenue — Pete's Coffee and Tea - Jerry Wyman presented plans for the exterior of Pete's Coffee and Tea. The awnings, signs and storefront treatments were approved. Certificate 99C -29. 1062 Massachusetts Avenue — Mark Sullivan's proposal for wooden and chainlink fences was denied. Reference Number 21. 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 r+ Minutes of Historic Districts Commission Meeting, April 8, 1999 CONTINUED HEARINGS: 805 Massachusetts Avenue - Atlas Travel - Elaine Osgood received approval of a projecting sign to be mounted on the corner of the building. Certificate 99C -22. 10 Woburn Street - Gingerbread Construction — John D'Orsi's proposal for umbrellas to be used in the front of his store was approved. Certificate 99C -23. 1963 Massachusetts Avenue — No one showed for this hearing. 27 Hancock Street — Bernard and Marsha Lannquist received approval of their plans for an addition to the rear of the house. Certificate 99C -24 1299 Massachusetts Avenue - John Serrio was givern permission to begin stonework in the front of his house. The hearing was continued to allow Mr. Serrio to return with brick samples and specific plans regarding the sidewalks, railing, and the stonewall. Certificate 99C -25. INFORMAL HEARINGS 41 -49 Waltham Street — Guardian Savings — Cameron Smith appeared before the Commission looking for ideas on dressing up the building. He will return next month with formal plans. 36 Bedford Street — Stop & Shop — Tom Fenn sought input on the color of traffic stanchions to be installed as part of the renovations of the Stop & Shop. The Commission indicated that it would favor the yellow preferred by the DPW and in use through out the town. Battle Green War Memorial — No one showed for this informal hearing.
