HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-03-04MINUTES OF MARCH 4, 1999 PETITIONS HEARD: Town of Lexington Historic Districts Commission Commissioners in attendance: Ian Adamson, Lynn Hopkins and Steve Politi; Associate Commissioners: Elaine Doran, and Eleanor MacQueen. 6 Parker Street - Peter Liano, Tom Fenn and Marian Oxford -Derth presented plans for the removal of a portion of the driveway and the installation of a fence. The plans were approved. Certificate 99C -07. 840 Massachusetts Avenue - John and Judi Brosnan received permission to replace their slate roof with slate -line shingles. Certificate 99C -08. 805 Massachusetts Avenue - (Atlas Travel) - Jim McCoy sought permission for two signs. The Commission felt that the signs as proposed would not honor the building, nor would they clarify the location of the business, which is around the side. The hearing was continued to allow a modified proposal. 1963 Massachusetts Avenue - B. Butler represented Ann Adley who wanted to put up a storm door. An aluminum door would not be approved so the hearing was continued to allow the applicant to investigate wooden storm doors. Massachusetts Avenue, Bedford Street and Waltham Street - (Lexington Commission 2000) - Gardner Hayward showed the banners that will be sold to help fund the 2000 Celebration. They will be placed on utility poles from February through April 2000. As they are temporary signs to be used in connection with an official celebration they are exempt from the Historic Districts Act. It will not be necessary to come back for approval of the individual locations. 5 Harrington Road - Tom and Carla Fortmann received approval for the replacement of shutters with federal reproduction shutters. Certificate 99C -09. 27 Hancock Street - Bernard and Marsha Lannquist are adding to the rear of their house. While the Commission felt the concept was fine, the hearing was continued to allow them to return with more detailed plans. 1387 Massachusetts Avenue - Doug McDonald came with his architect Richard Tremaglio. The Commission approved plans to extend the kitchen to the rear and modify the rear porch. Certificate 99C -10. 8 Parker Street - Laurel Hudson's color change was approved. Certificate 99C -11 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 CONTINUED HEARINGS: 6 Bruce Road — The Commission approved the Nusses' request for the conversion of their screen porch into a four - season room. They received a Certificate of Hardship for the use of vinyl siding on the addition The Commission felt that it would not be a detriment to the neighborhood as the rest of the house already has vinyl siding. Certificate 99C -12. 46 Bedford Street — (Shell Gas Station) — No one showed for this hearing. 1299 Massachusetts Avenue — John Serrio sought approval of his existing window boxes. Certificate 99C -13. INFORMAL HEARINGS 1749 Massachusetts Avenue — (Peet's Coffee & Tea) — Pat Paladino presented tentative plans for the new store at this location. The Commission felt the proposal was a little too "funky" for Lexington Center and made some suggestions as to how to change the signage, awnings and color selections. The architect for the project will talk with Ian Adamson before the April meeting. 1083 Massachusetts Avenue — Fred Shoemaker brought a sample of a true divided light window with an outside energy panel that he will be using at this address. The Commission felt it would be acceptable. 915 and 917 Massachusetts Avenue — David and Bill Rothfuchs wanted to gauge the sentiment of the Commission regarding the demolition of the small single family house toward the rear of the property. The Commission felt that they would be able to approve the demolition, but expressed concerns about the size of the proposed addition to the remaining house.
