PETITIONS HEARD:
Town of Lexington
Historic Districts Commission
Commissioners in attendance. Ian Adamson, Mark DiNapoli, Joann Gschwendtner and Lynn
Hopkins; Associate Commissioners: Walter Bergler, Elaine Doran and Eleanor MacQueen
Mark DiNapoli was elected acting chair. The minutes of October 1, 1998 were approved.
Visitor's Center, Buckman Tavern — (J. Gschwendtner stepped out for this hearing) George
Comtois presented plans 011 behalf of the Lexington Historical Society. They will be replacing
and moving three signs in the area of Buckman Tavern. The proposal was approved. Certificate
98C -86.
Meriam Street Parking Lot — George Woodbury sought approval for a sign with parking rates to
be displayed on the parking attendant's booth. A permanent sign was approved, as was a
temporary sign for three months. Jack Quinlan sought approval of the newly painted eagle at the
fire station. It had been changed from one color matching the trim to a multi - color. It was
approved. George Woodbury presented some ideas for a replacement police booth at the
intersection of Waltham Street and Massachusetts Avenue. Certificate 98C -87.
1787 Massachusetts Avenue — Mark Tedescho of Gammett Signs showed plans for a sign for
Aquarius Travel. They were approved. Certificate 98C -88.
1894 Massachusetts Avenue — Marc Rinaldi will be re- siding and painting his house. The
proposal was approved. Certificate 98C -89.
10 Bloomfield Street — Matthew Sadler received approval of a small retaining wall and a new
storm door in the front. Certificate 98C -90.
CONTINUED HEARINGS:
1 Wallis Court — No one showed up to present this petition. The Commission voted to continue
the hearing if the applicant sent a letter within two weeks requesting a continuance.
10 Woburn Street — This hearing was continued at the request of John D'Orsi, the applicant.
1776 Massachusetts Avenue — Allen Chiocca presented plans for signage at the new location of
US Trust. Signage was approved for the front and rear of the building. The hearing was
continued to allow modification of the spacing of the letters on the front US Trust sign. The vote
on the front sign was four in favor (Adamson, Bergler, DiNapoli and Hopkins) and one opposed
(Gschwendtner). The vote of the rear sign was 5 in favor. Certificate 98C -91

41 -49 Waltham Street — David Petkewich and Aban Makerechian presented the detailed plans
for Guardian Savings. The proposal for vinyl clad windows was not approved. The vote was
two in favor (Bergler and Adamson), and three opposed (Gsechwendtner, DiNapoli and
Hopkins). The hearing was continued to allow exploration of other options.
CONTINUED HEARINGS:
703 Massachusetts Avenue — John Ellis presented a change in the back addition of the Waldorf
High School. Dormers were approved. Certificate 98C -92.
INFORMAL HEARINGS:
1387 Massachusetts Avenue — Douglas McDonald discussed plans to remodel his kitchen and to
move a shed in the back yard.
7 Harrington Road — Margo Shaw of First Parish discussed the placement and color of play
structures used by their tenant, a nursery school.
