Eric and Kim Zanin were represented by Steve Hurley. Two shed dormers on opposite sides of the roof were approved, as was the substitution of lattice for two doors on the back of the house under the porch. Certificate 98C -71. 41 -49 Waltham Street - David Petkewich presented a proposal for the updating of the Guardian Savings building. The Commission felt that there was not enough specific information presented to approve. Overall the Commission felt the building would be much improved. The hearing was continued. 1840 Massachusetts Avenue - Nancy Leger of Boston Federal Savings Bank came with Jim Smith from the sign center, Amy Timmerman from marketing, and a mason who will be doing the proposed stone work. Ms. Leger requested a new and larger sign as well as improvements to the area in front of the bank. The Commission felt that the sign was too large and busy. Plans for paving the area in the front, installing granite planters, window boxes and benches were presented. The hearing was continued to allow the bank to address the concerns of the Commission. 1656 Massachusetts Avenue - No one appeared to present this petition. The Commission voted to deny the petition unless the Commission receives a request for continuance. 1709 Massachusetts Avenue - Howard Gevertz and his attorney Frederick Conway carne before the Commission to discuss the umbrellas that have been in use on the second floor patio. The Commission granted a temporary Certificate of Approval for the umbrellas which expires September 30, 1998. Certificate 98C -72. 6 Hancock Avenue - Mary Pat Happ received approval of a new trim color. She will return next month with plans for gutters and a storm door. Certificate 98C -73. 627 Massachusetts Avenue - Mirko Matejic sought a modification of his Certificate of Appropriateness, number 98C -14, for the enclosure of his carport. The original plan was to construct the rear wall on top of an existing stonewall. Due to structural concerns Mr. Matejic would now like to move the wall back. The Commission is sympathetic to the problem but had no immediate solution. Mr. Matejic will meet with his contractor and architect and then present his plans to Ian Adamson for review.
