Minutes of the August 7, 1997 Meeting
Commissioners in attendance: Rick Bechtel,Walter Bergler, Elaine Doran,Joanne
Gschwendtner, Eleanor MacQueen, and Steve Polite
Petitions Heard.
Minuteman Statute. Battle Green John Carroll and a representative from Cuccio masons
presented plans to do maintenance work on the Minuteman statue. The base will be regrouted
and the rocks in front will be replaced with fieldstones. The work was approved with the
condition that it will done in consultation with the Field and Garden Club and that the mortar
color will be approved after the viewing of samples in the field. Certificate No. 97C-60
9 Hancock Street—Gail Arnold presented plans to expand a picket fence across the front of the
property, put up signs indicating it pnvate property, and a play structure. The fence was denied
(Yes-Bergler, Bechtel; No-MacQueeen, Politi, Gschwendtner) The hearing was continued on the
other two items. Ref No. 63 (No Certificate)
57 Forest Street—The shutters will be changed from blue to Essex green, a trellis will be added
around the house and across the face of the garage, and the windows in the back will be replaced
with divided light windows. Changes were approved. Certificate No. 97G61
Denot/Emery Park—The planting plan and suggested pavers for this project were presented.
Boston bricks for the walkways, concrete pavers in a herring bone pattern for busways and granite
curbing were approved. The planting as presented were approved. Certificate 97C-62.
The remaining continued hearings had no petitioners appear to present.
Informal: 11 Bngham Road—Kate McCarey presented possible window changes and will return
next month for a formal hearing.
