HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-01-08HDC Minutes 1/8/97 The Lexington Historic Districts Commission met at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 1997, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town Office Building. Present were the following Commissioners: Stephen M. Politi, Chairman Mark DiNapoli Joann Gschwendtner and the following Associate Commissioners: Walter H. Bergler, Jr. Eleanor MacQueen Sara Chase The Commission took action on the following requests for Certificates of Appropriateness (see attached pages): David Williams, 1433 Massachusetts Avenue, Munroe Tavern District, with respect to exterior architectural changes. Emilia Delgado, d /b /a Emilia Creations, 1632 Massachusetts Avenue, Battle Green District, with respect to the erection and display of signage. Lawrence Kipp, 517 Massachusetts Avenue, East Village District, with respect to chimney repair and the installation of chimney caps. Wei -Jen Ong, d /b /a Yangtze River Restaurant, 25 Depot Square, Battle Green District, with respect to the erection and display of signage. The Spaulding Management Corporation, 1656 Massachusetts Avenue, Battle Green District, with respect to exterior architectural changes. Peter Chalpin, representing the Town of Lexington, 1875 Massachu- setts Avenue and 45 Bedford Street, both located in the Battle Green District, with respect to roof replacement at both locations. (Continued from 12/4/96) John D'Orsi, d /b /a the Gingerbread Construction Company, 10 Woburn Street, Battle Green District, with respect to exterior architectural changes, landscape changes and the erection and display of signage. (Continued from 12/4/96) Daniel O'Connor, representing St. Brigid's Church, 2001 Massachusetts Avenue (the rectory), Battle Green District, with respect to the reshingling of the roof. (Continued from 12/4/96) With respect to these requests, the following action was taken: The application of David Williams was approved unanimously; voting in this decision were Commissioners Stephen M. Politi, Mark DiNapoli and Joann Gschwendtner, and Associate Commissioners Walter H. Bergler, Jr. and Eleanor MacQueen. Also present and participating in this discussion was Associate Commissioner Sara Chase. The application of Emilia Delgado was approved unanimously; voting in this decision were Commissioners Stephen M. Politi, Mark DiNapoli and Joann Gschwendtner, and Associate Commissioners Walter H. Bergler, Jr. and Eleanor MacQueen. Also present and participating in this discussion was Associate Commissioner Sara Chase. The application of Lawrence Kipp was withdrawn. The application of Wei -Jen Ong was withdrawn. The application of the Spaulding Management Corporation was continued until 2 /5/97. The application of Peter Chalpin was approved in part (for roof replacement at 1875 Massachusetts Avenue); voting in this decision were Commissioners Stephen M. Politi, Mark DiNapoli and Joann Gschwendtner, and Associate Commissioners Walter H. Bergler, Jr. and Eleanor MacQueen. Also present and participating in this discussion was Associate Commissioner Sara Chase. The application of John D'Orsi was denied because no one representing the Gingerbread Construction Company was present at the meeting to submit information. The application of Daniel O'Connor was denied because no one representing O'Connor Brothers Painting was present at the meeting to submit information. The Commission also entertained the following informal proposals: Helene Sullas- Huggins, representing the Waldorf School, 739 Massachusetts Avenue, East Village District, with respect to the erection and display of temporary signage. Will attend the 2/5/97 meeting. Christine Dall and Randall Conrad, 1116 Massachusetts Avenue, East Village District, with respect to landscape changes. Will attend the 2/5/97 meeting. Michael Leonard, d /b /a Upper Story Books, 1730 Massachusetts Avenue, Battle Green District, with respect to the installation of a bookcase. Will attend the 2/5/97 meeting. Linda Lombardi, 53 Forest Street, Battle Green District, with respect to exterior architectural changes. It was later determined that even though a portion of the property is located within the Battle Green District, the building located at 53 Forest Street does not fall within the boundary; therefore, it was determined that no hearing was necessary for the proposed exterior architectural changes at this address.
