HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION
July 17, 1985
A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday,
July 17, 1985, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room. Present were Commissioners
Roland B. Greeley; Linda J. hlcAulay, Secretary; Stephen ht. Poli.ti; and Asso-
ciate Commissioners Stephen Cripps, Mary Harding Nye, Albert T. Pitt; and
Walter S. Pierce. It was moved, seconded, and VOTED that hlr. Greeley serve
as Chairman Pro Tem. h(r.Cripps and Mrs. Nye were appointed to serve as
voting members for this meeting_
Roland Gubisch presented a bill for Volumes 5-7 of the Comprehensive
Cultural Resources Inventory of the Town of Lexington for $56.33. It was
VOTED to pay this bill. Mr. Gubisch asked if a decision had been made on
the recommendation that formal agreement be made for certified local govern-
ments. blr. Politi said that he had looked into this but he recommended that
the Historic Districts Commission recommend that the Historical Commission
he the board to enter into any agreement. So VOTED.
At 8:05 P.hi. a hearing scheduled for Clifford and Emma B. Hansen of
905 Massachusetts Avenue for the installation of combination storm windows
was adjourned ty VOTE of the Commission to the next nmeeting as no one had
appeared to discuss the proposal.
At 8:10 P.M. Seabird Associates, Inc. presented scale drawings of the
sign proposed for 1628 Massachusetts Avenue. Following discussion, it was ~
VOTED (with hlrs. hlcAUlay voting against) to use the existing sign but to
center it on the balusters of the porch.
At 8:30 P.M. Caroline Creelman presented copies of a sign reading "The
Gifted Hand" to replace the "Hannah Shoe" sign on the building at 1666
Massachusetts Avenue. The backboard will be Hamilton Blue and the 6" capi-
tal letters, logo, and frame will be of 23 kt. gold leaf. So VOTED.
At 8:40 P.b1. Emmanuel Coscia representing the Town of Lexington pre-
sented proposal to duplicate the work done between the Town Office Building
and Cary Memorial Hall 18 months ago between the Cary Memorial Building and
the Police Station. The risers will be brick, Bluestone on the steps, and
the railing will be pointed black enamel. So VOTED.
At 8:45 P.M. Emmanuel Coscia represented the Town of Lexington nn an
application for installation of combination aluminum storm windows on the
Plunroe School at 1403 Massachusetts Avenue. This hearing was adjourned to
August 7th.
At 9:05 P.hi. Peter E. and Cynthia B. Nebolsine of 13 Hancock Avenue
presented their proposal to extend the rear of their dwelling back 12' by
adding a two-story addition with matchine or no blinds, and 16" square red
brick chimney. Following discussion it was VOTED that the chimney be
installed inside, paint white or leave the chimney red, to install matching
blind with appropriate hardware on the dining room, and not to install blinds
on the new addition.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 P.h1.
