Present were Commissioners John L. Davies, Chair; Linda J. McAulay, Secretary; Roland B. Greeley, and John E. Ryan, and Associate Commissioners Mary Harding Nye, Stephen B. Cripps, and Albert T. Pitt. At 8:00 PM, Howard J. Potter, M.D. appeared on behalf of the Clarke Street Condominium Trust to request approval of a fence to be erected at the rear of the premises at 16 Clarke Street. He explained that the purpose of the fence was to discourage people parking in the 16 Clarke Street lot and then walking to the Center. The fence would be 5' high, constructed of black vinyl coated chain link material with a top rail. There would be no gate. Peter and Helen Cambourelis of Lois Ernst Realtors, a rear abuttor, spoke in favor of the proposal which was then VOTED. At 8:15 PM Maryelene R. Dailey and Ruth McCormack appeared to request approval for the installation of storm windows on the building at 1620 Massachusetts Avenue. The windows would be triple track combination storm and screen units in white baked enamel finish as provided by Shoemaker, Inc. The proposal was VOTED. Bills were then VOTED in the amounts of $53.80 to Beacon Communications Corp. and $135.30 to Miss -Barbara Gilson. Discussion followed on the awnings at the Shawmut County Bank. It was noted that they had been illegally installed and that the Chairman would write a letter requesting that they be removed. Isaac Dray then appeared on behalf of the Versailles Restaurant at 1775 Massachusetts Avenue to request approval for a sign on the rear of his prem- ises. The sign will be 11" x 74" centered over the rear door of the restaurant. It will consist of white painted Duroply cut-out letters painted white and fixed to the brick wall. The lettering style will match the Garamond style used on the front of the building. The proposal was VOTED. Permission was also given for 3" white lines to be painted on the nosings of the front and rear steps in the inter- est of personal safety. At 8:45 PM, Edward J. Gallagher, James Keating and William Piper appeared on behalf of Shell Oil Company with regard to their proposed car wash addition at 46 Bedford Street. They explained that a change in zoning required a 20' rear yard rather than 10', and the previously approved design could therefore no longer be built. Anew drawing of a modified design was presented and VOTED, subject to the requirement that not less than 30 arbor vitae shrubs be planted at the rear line. Alan Armstrong, chairman of the Facilities Committee of the First Parish Church, next appeared informally for discussion of a proposed handicapped ramp and new entrance door at the rear wing of the church. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 PM. Linda S. McAulay Secretary
