Davies, Chairman, and Linda J. McAulay; and Associate Commissioners Stephen B. Cripps, Mary H. Nye, and Albert T. Yitt. At 8:00 r.M. Mr. Jahn Duffy appeared on behalf of the Spaulding & Co., Inc. with respect to the erection and display of a sign reading "Software City" on the building at 1666 Massachusetts Avenue. The sign will represent the Software City logo in raised, rounded wood letters finished in 23 karat gold. The maximum height of any letter will be 18", the total height of the sign will be 28", and its total length will be 55". There will be no illumination. There was discussion of the appropriateness of the logo design, and the proposal was then VOTED. At 8:00 P.M. the legal notice for the application of Sack Theaters with respect to signs at 1794 Massachusetts Avenue and 10 Muzzey Street was read. There was no representative of Sack Theaters at the hearing and no drawings had been submitted, so it was unanimously VOTED to disapprove the applica- tion for lack of prosecution. It was also noted by the Commission, and will be inserted into the Notice of Determination, that the existing signs at both locations have been altered without the issuance of a Certificate and are therefore in violation of the Historic Districts Act. At approximately 8s30 ?'.M. Ms. Catherine Donahue and Mrs. Fannette Luhrs appeared on behalf of the Hancock School Condominium Association to discuss the possible installation of replacement windows at that building. There was general agreement on the part of the Commissioners. provided that the windows preserve the architectural character of the building. At approximately 9:00 P.M. Mr. Mark Moore appeared on behalf of The Liberties Gulf Station at 39 Bedford Street to request permission to sub- stitute white letters for the black letters that had been inadvertently requested and approved at the hearing on. December 14, 1983. There xas no opposition to the request, but it was noted that a change in sign color is not covered by the same section in the Act that permits a change in building color in the absence of an advertised hearing. A hearing will be therefore be required, and Mr. Moore agreed to appear on April 11, 1984. Bills in the amount of $8.54 for Beacon Communications Corporation and $43.80 for Barbara Gilson were VOTED, he meeting was adjourned at g:15 p.M. r ~.-~s-~ John L. Davies Chairman
