HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-11-17 HISTORIC i~ISTRZCT,S CUNMZSST~~7P+` A meeting oi' the Historic Districts Commission was held at 8ii}v P.M. on Wednesday, November 17, 19&^., in the Selectmen`s Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexington. Present u~re Commissioners John R. Packard, Chairman, and Ann Wallace; and Associate Commissioners Sarah P. Harkness. Richard. S. Morehouse. and Molly Nye. Th4y xere joined later by Commis- si~~ner S. Lawrence Whipple and Associate Commissioner Linda J. FlcAulay. The Commission first considered the application of i'ot'k Hannover Developments, Tne. for a sign on the Depot Square side of the Giroux Building. This sign resembled all others on the building and, after the bri^fest cf discussion, it was VOTED to appr^vA the sa~se. At 8s2O P.M. Mark Moore showed the Commission an attractive free- standing sign for The Liberties, formerly the Rowe Chevrolet property. on Bedford Street. This sign must also be approved by the Board of Appeals. The Commission VOTED to approve it after discussion. 'Phe Commission also VOTED to approve nex shingles for' the adjaceait Gulf station. Mr. Moore will replace the existing white shingles with a blend matching those on The Liberties, all at no expense to the Gulf station. At the final hearing of the evening the Commission VOTED to approve aluminum gutters for the home of Karsten and Nancy F. Sorensen at Une Vine ~ Brook Road, and else VOTED to approve an arched front doorway, with. brick and slate stairs, all designed to restore the house to its original appear- ance, or at least something close to it. Routine bills for stationery, publication, and clerical services in the total of $149.19, were VOTED. The members then discussed recent problems with an illegal fence on the Fard property at the corner of teak Street anal Massachusetts Avenue, illegal siding on the Arvenitis duplex an Massachusetts Avenue in the East Village, and an illegal fence erected by the Depr~sitors Trust Company at its main affice in Depot Square.
