A mes~ting of the Historic Districts Commission was held at 8s00 P.M.
ern 1~ednesday, October 23, 198?_, in thr: Selectmen's Meeting P.oom, Tnwn
Uffice Building, Lexingtari. Present were Commissioners John R. Packard,
Chairman; S. Lawrence Whipple, Secretary; Roland B. Greeley; and Associate
Commissioners Linda J. McAuley, Richard S, Morehouse, and Molly Nye.
At 8:00 P.M. Tim Harrington of The Antiques Marketplace requested a
sign for the stare at Meriam Street the Giroux Building.}. There was
some discussian about the appropriateness of a sign all in lower case
letters, but they would be in the same style, and of the same materials,
as others on the building. so it was VOTED to approve the same, for the
one word '°antiques"„
At 8:20 P.M. Carla Fortmann told the Commission. about repairs planned
for the two porches on her home at 5 Harrington Road„ The Commission need
not approve repairs. but it did VOTE to approve white cedar shingles for
the ell, in place of the existing asphal+_ .
The "'Garrity House" at 9 Hancock Street was once again the subject
of a hearing, at 8:30 P.M., with the new owner-to--be:, Rabex-t J. I,ind¢
presenting a lengthy application for approval of doors, skylights, stone
walls, fencing, and so an. The Commission favored everything as presr:rrted, i
except that it requested a reduction in sire of the two skylights on the
Living room raof. With this modification it xas YOTY~D to approve thy:
applicatian as submitted„
Mr. Lind wishes to move the hoarse back from the sidewalk. This may
require a vote of the Town Meeting. In any event, after discussian, it
was apparent that the Commission agreed with Mr. Lind that a move would be
desirable, and accon3ingly it was VOTED to express such a preference which
swill mean that no further hearing an this subject will be .required, so
?ong as the house is moved as she°~n an the application.
Speaking for the Garrity House Cammittee, Mrs.. Ann Grady askod the
Cammissian if it would be wilting to assume responsibility for supervision
of the intex•iar of the house after the rehabilitation work. is completed.

We then had an informal discussion with Jan L. Meades, proprietor of

The Commission then VOTED to approve paint colors selected by
Marjorie Nacht far the shutters and front door of her home at 5 Parker
Street.
It Went on to disapprove the application of Leader Federal Savings &
Loan Association for changes to the rear of the building at 18~F0 Massa-
chusetts Avenue, for failure to present the application - sa VOTED.
And after a final VOTE of the evening to approve clerical and publi-
cation bills of $107.'~2~ the meeting was adjourned at 20x00 P.M.
