Cary Memorial Building, Lexington. Present were Commissioners John R. Packard, Chairman= S. Lawrence Whipple, Secretary; John L. Davies; Roland B, Greeley; Ann Wallace; and Associate Commissioner Linda J. McAuley. At 8:10 P.M. the Commission reviewed scale drawings for the Diet Center of Lexington at 1620 Massachusetts Avenue. The sign x111 resemble the others hanging on the porch at this address, and after a brief dis- cussion it was VOTED to approve the same. Another sign, for La Tienda Sister City Store, Inc., xas the subject of the second hearing of the evening, this sign to be a projecting one by the side entrance at 16+4 Massachusetts Avenue (Bicycle Loft Building). The Commission found the sign to be most attractive and VOTED to approve it. During a lull in the proceedings Mrs. McAuley reported that the Adams School Conversion Committee x111 recommend to the Selectmen that the school be included in the East Village District, a move we support. Mariam L. Markiexicz then discussed informally a sign for the Gift Cellar at 7A Meriam Street. The Commission did not favor a sign hanging outside the store window and suggested a projecting sign instead, which the applicant will request at our next meeting. At 8:50 P.M, the Commission took up reviex of still another sign - for School's Inn at 5 Wallis Court. At a previous meeting the Commission asked the applicant to study the site again for the best location for the sign. It was agreed that the sign should hang from the porch, below the xoodwork at the top. Although the applicant did not have scale drawings of the sign, he did bring a section of it with him. From this a majority of the Commission felt approval could be granted, subject to the applicant's submitting scale drawings to complete the record. Approval was accordingly VOTED by a margin of 4 to 1, Secretary Whipple dissenting. At 9:20 P.M. L.H. York Associates presented a request for a number of signs for the new portion of 1775 Massachusetts Avenue. The applicants did not bring with them drawings from which the Commission could make an informed decision, and, yielding to the eloquence of the applicants, the Commission agreed to continue the hearing until November 29, at which it is hoped acceptable drawings x111 be submitted. At 9:50 P.M. Amy Samoylenko discussed more changes for Lexington Mews at 10 Muasey Street. They were (1) additional second floor windoxs facing the rkin lot and 2 additional si boards for the directory sign. also Pa g ( ) facing the parking lot. Approval xas VOTED at 10:00 P.M.
