A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission xas held at 8:00 P.M.
on Wednesday, May 20, Y982, in Room G-i$, Town Office Building, Lexington.
Present were Commissioners John R. Packard, Chairman; S. Lawrence Whipple,
Secretary; Ann Wallace; and Associate Commissioners Linda J. McAulay,
Richard S. Morehouse, and Molly Nye.
At 815 P.M. the Commission discussed the request of Robert Sacco for
permission to construct a loading dock on the rear of The Lexington Press
building at 7 Oakland Street. The Commission reviewed the scale drawings
and then VOTED to approve the plans as presented.
At 820 P.M. John Wholey of New England Telephone reviewed the company's
plans for pay telephones in Lexington Center, a matter previously taken up
informally with the Commission and also reviewed by the Board of Selectmen.
The Commission agreed that the nex open booths xould be an improvement upon
the closed booths they w111 be replacing at Woburn and Meriam Streets. Two
more on one post will be installed in front of the CVS store on Massachu-
setts Avenue. All 'phones will be one way, not accepting incoming calls.
The only controversial telephone was one requested for Emery Park. Messrs.
Whipple and Morehouse were willing to accept one on the zest end of the
park or on the sidewalk next to the street, not the park. Mrs. Wallace and
Mrs. McAulay were opposed to any telephone in this location. This left the
deciding vote up to the Chairman, who approved all the sites. The Commission
accordingly VOTED to approve the installation of all of the telephones by a
margin of 3-2.
At 9s25 P.M. June Kidney appeared with her lawyer and builder to present
modified plans for an addition to the rear of her home at 924-926 Massachu-
setts Avenue. The Commission disapproved the plans presented at the April 29
hearing but found the new ones acceptable and so VOTED to approve the same.
It should be noted that much of the addition is not visible from a public
place.
The meeting was adjourned at i0:30 P.M.
