Present were Commissioners John Ry Packard, Chairman, Roland Greeley, Ann Wallace, and S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioner Richard Morehouse. The meeting was called to order at Ss00 P.M. and the chairman noted that the first hearing concerning a sign re- quested by the Grey Nuns' Provisional Administration for their property at Massachusetts Avenue and Pelham Road had been cancelled, because the Board of Appeals had denied per- mission for the sign. The Assemblies of God Christian Center failed to appear at 8s15 P.M. for their hearing concerning a sign for the Munroe School (1403 Massachusetts Avenue). It was VOTED to continue the hearing until June 18 and so to advise the appli- cant. At 8s30 P. M. the Shawmut County Bank N.A. presented plans for an automated teller in the existing walk-up window on the Muzzey Street side of the Bank. After an extended discussion it was VOTED 3-2 to approve the application, with the substitution of "warm" colors in certain areas, to be specified in the certificate of approval. Mr. Whipple dis- sented because he did not approve the glass panel for the existing porch, and the Chairman dissented because he thought -2- . V the open-air installation of automated tellers should be dis- couraged not only on aesthetic grounds but also because it set a bad precedent. At 9:15 P. M. Mr. Gerald M. Gilbert. the new owner of Snack Time at 1734 Massachusetts Avenue presented plans for a sign. The Commission denied an application for a sign by the previous owner because his plan did not include removal of the red panels on the facade. Mr. Gilbert agreed to remove these panels. After discussion, the Commission thought he could use the existing sign board, cutting it down in size and removing the decorative molding for a simpler one. The appli- cant will return on June 18 with final plans, and samples of the plexiglass letters he would like to use. It is expected that the sign board will be painted white and that the letters will be a dark red. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P. M. ~,~0 V-~,~---cam
