HISTORIC DISTRICTS CONIlI9ISSION
A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held
on Wednesday, April 15, 1980 at 8:00 P.M. in the Selectmen's
Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexington. Present were
S.Lawrence Whipple and John Davies, Comn'?issionersi Linda J.
McAuley, Richard Morehouse, and Howard Nason, Associate
Commissioner. On motion duly made and seconded, Mr. Whipple
was VOTED Chairman Pro Tem.
At Se08 P. M. Mr. Morehouse and Mr. James Wilson presented
the application of the First Baptist Church for permission to
install combination windows throughout the Church at 1580
Massachusetts Avenue. After discussion, it was VOTED to
approve the application, four votes in favor, with Mr. Morehouse
abstaining.
Mr. Jerry Slack of the Cycle and Ski Loft then presented
a proposed color scheme and sign for his new premises at 1644
Massachusetts Avenue, matters previously discussed informally
with the Commission. It was VOTED to approve a light yellow
paint for the shingled portion of the building, with a darker
yellow for the clapboards, and white trim: although there was
some preference expressed for yellow trim, too.
A 2' by 15' sign reading ''The Cycle and Ski Lof t" was
approved for the Massachusetts Avenue elevation, and so VOTED.
Details of the same may be found in scale drawings on file
with the Commission.
It was VOTED to approve erection under the porch windows
of the applicant's old sign for his Muzzey Street quarters.

The subject of tenant signs was discussed, too. The applicant
would like these to resemble his new sign, but does not wish
to have a free standing signboard. No vote was taken on this
matter, and the applicant will study it further before re-
turning for a hearing.
At 9:10 P. M. Mr. Douglas Knight presented an application
for signs at Judges Road designed to discourage unauthorized
parking by non-residents of Pine Grove Village. The Commi-
ssion had requested him to return for further discussion
after expressing reservations about the signs presented on
February 13.
The number of signs was reduced to four, and after a brief
review of the style and wording it was VOTED to approve them.
Details will be found in the certificate issued, and the records
of the Commission.
Finally, Molly Nye and Wendy Holzberg, of Gallery on the
Green, 1837 Massachusetts Avenue, requested permission to display
a temporary banner or sign for the opening of the Gallery early
in May, and until a permanent sign is erected. A temporary
banner, with dark green design on a tan background, was approved,
for a limited time of one month.
The meeting was adjourned at 10e00 P.M.
