Those present were John R. Packard, Chairman; Commissioners John L. Davies and Roland B. Greeleyt Associate Commissioners Linda J. McAulgy and Howard Nason, respectively, for Commissioners S. Lawrence ~rQ o r e~i a Whipple and B~oi°ier Williams, Secretary. The first hearing of the evening opened at 8e00 P. M. when Mr. Richard Morehouse presented the request of John E. Boeing, Trustee of the Monument Realty Trust, for approval of the installation of about 60 combination storm windows on the premises at 18 Muzzey Street. Mr. Morehouse dis- played a sample window, similar to many others approved by the Commission in the past, and after discussion it was VOTED to approve the request. At 8:15 P.M. Mr. Michael Doran presented scale drawings of a tool shed for construction at Pine Grove Village, 1-16 Judges Road, in a location shown on a plot plan also sub- mitted. The tool shed will be painted a 'California Rustic" shade identical to that used for one of the recently re- painted buildings of Pine Grove Village. This shed replaces another previously approved, but not erected. Because of its location near the property line, the applicant was advised to seek again the approval of the Board of Appeals, the Commission having VOTED its approval. At 830 P. M. the Commission reviewed scale drawings • -2 • r w presented by Mr. Webb Nichols, Architect, on behalf of Donald L. and Susan E. Laurie, who plan an addition to the rear of their house at 15 Haneock Street. Such scale drawings were requested to replace others presented earlier, which were considered by the Commission not adequate to illustrate the work intended. The Commission was satisfied with the drawings newly submitted and accordingly VOTED to approve the same. The final hearing of the evening concerned a child's playhouse to be erected at 30 Hancock Street Trust. At 9s00 P. M. Mr. Jones presented the plans, which included a plot plan showing the playhouse's location in the southwesterly corner of the lot, conforming to requirements laid down by the Board of Appeals. The Commission discussed with Mr. Jones modifications in the standard playhouse shown in his presentation, all of which will be incorporated in a certi- ficate of appropriateness, and at the conclusion of the hearing it was VOTED to approve the playhouse, as modified. Dr. and Mrs. William Cosgrove spoke in favor of the playhouse as they did earlier with respect to the Laurie application at 15 Hancock Street. Mr. Bruce Ribas then discussed the signs he wishes to erect for his new store, Melinda's, opening soon at 1719-21 Massachusetts Avenue. These will be the sub3ect of a formal hearing on November 7. The consensus at this informal hearing oppeared to favor something more than the single word "Melinda's" 4 for the signs, so that the nature of the business would be ~ -3 A evident; but something less than the applicant desired to advertise his discount prices. The Commission then discussed the request of Lexington Center Trust fora second story addition to the premises at 1760-62 Massachusetts Avenue, continuing its review of a formal application presented on October 3 followed by afield trip on October 10. The members felt that such an addition would be inappropriate, and were indeed skeptical about any addition at all, which they feared wou]dobscure the view of the attractive Casco Realty building, as well as fill in still more space they would prefer to see left open. The Chairman was authorized to write to the applicant about these reserva- tions, and give him the opportunity to make a further presen- tation of his case on Tdovember 7. The meeting was ad3ourned at 10:45 P.M. V ~?V-..~-v
