Present were Commissioners John R. Packard, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secre- tary; John L. Davies; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioner Linda J. McAulay. Mrs. McAulay was appointed to serve for Commissioner Roland B. Greeley who was unable to be present. An informal meeting was held at 8:10 P.M. with Mr. Moe Morrissette of Consumer Yalue Stores regarding proposed changes in the store at 1735 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr. Morrissett showed scale drawings of three possible signs for the store and, following considerable discussion, the members present decided that they preferred signs for the front and rear of the store of gold leaf, gothic letters, reading "CVS PHARMACY", which would be mounted directly on the red brick. The letters would be 1" thick capital letters 2' in height, and the two signs would be 25" in length. The store front is 63` long. The sign on the front elevation would be lighted by a fluorescent light at the roof line and Mr. Davies requested that it be a warm fluorescent rather than cool white. Following discussion, it was stated that gold leaf letters would be preferable to gold paint. Mr. Morrissette said that the letters could be of wood, metal, or hard plastic. He stated that the rear sign would be the same as the front sign but xould not be lighted. Mr. Morrissette said that they would install new glass, new bronze ano- dized aluminum doors and windows, and would brick the lower portions of the the front under the windows. The brick at the left side of the door would be 5$' high and the other side would be 24". Mr. Whipple stated that the Commission should see the brick before beginning installation. Mr. Morrissette said that no changes except for the sign were proposed for the rear of the building. He showed samples of proposed awning material and it was decided that the solid red was preferable. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 P.M. Borgia H. Williams Secretary
