Samoylenko arrived at 8:45 P.M. She asked if anyone had heard details of the "gazebo" that someone wishes to donate to the Town for concerts and stated that she understood the location had been narrowed down to the area between Buckman Tavern and the Visitors Center. Mrs. Samoylenko said that she understood two designs were being considered. A hearing was held at 8:50 P.M. on the application of the Lexington Mews Trust, Amelia G. Samoylenko, Trustee, for a Certificate with respect to the erection and display of two directory signs on the rear of the build- ing at 10 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr. Packard read the legal notice and made reference to the application. Mrs. Samoylenko submitted three copies of a drawing showing the proposed direc- tory signs. She stated that they would be like the one in front of the building but without posts and that they would be mounted on the building, i • HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION - 2 - September 2i, i977 one each side of the entrance doorway. The signs would be 2'6" wide by 2'0" high. The sign to the left of the doorway xould have "FIRST FL008" at the top with two signs below and the one to the right of the doorway would have "SECOND FLOOR" at the top with three signs below. The sign- boards would. have three removable panels. The letters would be incised gold leaf Raman letter 3" or 1 i~2" in height and the backboard would be a dark broxn stain. The signs would match existing signs on the building. Mrs. Williams suggested that the signboards be mounted with the top of the signboard even with the top of the xindaws on either side of the main en- trance doorway and the others agreed that this would be a preferable loca- tion for the signs. Mrs. Harkness said that she xould prefer letters of all the same size, Mr. Davies asked if the Commission could specify let- ters of a larger size for the capital letters. Mrs. Harkness commented that this then gives the choice of all capitals or capital and lower case letters. Mr. Davies suggested that the Certificate state that upper case letters shall be 2 1~2" in height. Mrs. Samoylenko was requested to sub- mit new drawings to scale incorporating the above changes. Mrs. Samoylenko then requested that Certificate of Appropriateness No. 77 C-36 dated June 22, 1977 be amended to permit the two theatre exit doors on the parking lot elevation which are of wood to be replaced with metal or metal clad doors. Following discussion, it was decided that 1 3~4" flush, hollow metal doors, without panelling, and painted a beige gray to match the siding as closely as possible would be most appropriate. Mrs. Samoylenko asked for permission to change the door leading to the second floor on the rear elevation with a nine-light door when the existing wood double entrance doors are replaced. The hearing was adjourned at 9:35 P,M. It was moved, seconded, and VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appro-~ iateness to the Lexington Mews Trust, Amalia G. Samoylenko, Trustee, with respect to the erection and display of two directory signboards (pending receipt of new scale drawings) on the rear of the building at 10 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District.
