HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-08-03 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, August 3. 1977, in the Select0nen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lex- ington. Present were Commissioners John R. Packard, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; Amalie G. Samoylenko; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Asso- ciate Commissioner Oliver F. Hooper. Mr. Hooper was appointed to sit for Commissioner Roland B. Greeley who was unable to be present. A hearing was held at 8005 P.M. on the application of Ruth E. Turner and Clementine C. McKeon for a Certificate with respect to an exterior architectural change in the dwelling at fi Bedford Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr. Packard read the legal notice and made reference to the application. Representing the applicants were Ruth E, Turner, Clementine C. McKeon, sad C. Harry Erickson. architect. Mr. Erickson stated that his clients rant to build a porch(on one side of their house. A common drive at the right side is shared with the Morrisons. Mr. Erickson submitted drawings of the proposed porch and stated that there would be sections of sliding screen and glass of white baked enamel aluminum and that the clapboards will be rood matching existing clapboards. Mr. Whipple said that his only question was about the type of rnof and Mr. Erickson said that feels this is the best solution and that there will be no prnblem where planes join. Mr. Packard asked if the roof shingles will match existing roof shingles and Mrs. Turner said that they would be black asphalt shingles matching existing shingles. The hearing was closed at 8:3o P.M. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Ruth E. Turner and Clementine C. McKeon with respect to an exterior architectural change in the dwelling at ii Bedford Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Participating in this decision were Commissioners John R. Packard, Georgia H. Williams, Amelia G. Samoy- lenko, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioner Oliver F. Hooper. Associate Commissioner Sarah P. Harkness arrived at 8:20 P.M. Mrs. Harkness was appointed to sit for Commissioner Amalie G. Samoy- lenko who was unable to sit on the following adjourned hearing. An adjourned hearing was held at 8s35 P.M. on the application of the Lexington Mexs Trust. Amelia G. Samoylenko, Trustee, fora Certificate amending Certificate of Appropriateness No. 77 C-36 dated June 22, i977 with respect to exterior architectural changes in the building at IO Mus$ey Street, which is xlthin the Battle Green District. Two General Electric heating and air-conditioning units will be installed 6.6" above grade level on the new brick wall of the Forest Street elevation rather than lower down on the wall as described in Certificate No. 77 C-36. A third such unit may, at the discretion of the applicant. be installed in the second story of the existing wall of the Forest Street elevation. Samoylenko, Trustee, sri.th respect to amending Certificate of Appropriateness Ido. ?7 C-36 dates June 22, 29~~ with respect to exterior architectural changes in the building at IO Muzsey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Participating in this decision were Commissioners John R. Packard, Georgia H. Williams, S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Com- missioners Sarah P. Harkness and Oliver F. Hooper. It xas moved, seconded, and VOTED to pay the following two bills: Minute-Man Publications, Inc. - $3.501 and Barbaxa Gilson for clerical services in July f9'7? - $52.50. Mr. Packard stated that he had written to Brigham's about their two signs but had had no answer from them. Mr. Packard stated that Anthony Casendino of the Design Advisory Committee will study the problem of the Police Shelter and other objects in that area.
