HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-05-11 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSIOAi A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, May ii, 1977, in Room GIS, Town Office Building, Lexington. Present were Commissioners John R. Packard, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams and Sarah P. Harkness. Mrs. Adams was appointed to sit for Commissioner Roland B. Greeley who was unable to be present. Mrs. Harkness was appointed to sit for Commissioner Amelia G. Samoylenko who waa unable to be present. Anne Grady and Elisabeth Reinhardt met xith the Commission. It xas stated that the Historical Commission can get preservation restrictions for certain historic buildings. It xa.s suggested that the Battle Green District be extended to include the Hancock School. Both Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Adams said that they feel it is a good idea. Mrs. Grady asked if the Commission can do anything about the extension of the redline to Lex- ington and Mr. Packard stated that he felt the Commission could with re- spect to architectural appropriateness. Mrs. Reinhardt asked if the Com- mission could do anything about the traffic program proposed for Pleasant Street and Massachusetts Avenue intersection and Mr. Packard said that the Commission had discussed this with Town officials and had written the De- partment of Public Works. It xas moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Dominic R. Nocera with respect to the erection and display of a sign on the building at 10 Muszey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Participating in this decision were Commissioners John R. Packard, Georgia H. Williams, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams and Sarah P. Harkness. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTLD to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Thomas A. and Karen 5. Louis with respect to the erection of a fence on the premises at 31 Hancock Street, xhich is within the Hancock-Clarke District. Participating in this decision were Commis- sioners John R. Packard, Georgia H. Williams, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams and Sarah P. Harkness. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Edward V. Jigarjian d/b/a Helting Pot International with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of, and an addition to, the building at 20 Waltham Street, and for the erection and display of a sign on said building, all within the Battle Green District. Participating in this decision xere Commissioners John R. Packard, Georgia H. Williams, S. Laxrsnce Whipple, and Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams and Sarah P. Harkness. It was moved, seconded, and VOTED to pay the following billss Minute- Man Publications, Inc., $Y0.50; S. J. Ingalls Stationer, Inc., $34.82; and Barbara Gilson for Hearings and Clerical Services in April, $120.00. The meeting was adjourned at 10s00 P,M. , Geo~a H. Williams Secretary
