HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-03-17 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION March 17, 1976 A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, March 17, 1976, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room. Present were Commissioners Wilbur N1. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; Thomas J. Holzbog; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioner Oliver F. Hooper who was appointed to serve for Commissioner Donald J. Shaw. At 8:.00 P.M. an adjourned hearing was held with F. Gordon Sullivan and his builder who discussed the revised plans for the front porch on the dwelling at 1351 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. The hearing was adjourned at 8:18 P.M. At 8:20 P.M. Donald Wilson of Wilson Farms, Inc. appeared to discuss proposed renovations to the dwelling at 626 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. The changes consist of replacement of a porch at the southwest corner of the rear of the dwelling with an =.outside wood stairway and second floor platform, replacement of the central window on the second floor elevation with a wood door leading to the platform, replacement of existing wood clapboards with new..woaod__elapboards having 4 1/2" exposure to the weatherr any replaced trim or cornerboards to be of the same width as existing, installation of combination aluminum storm windows, and replacement of exterior lighting fixtures on each side of the front door by a lantern type fixture to be selected by the applicant. Mr. Wilson stated that they want to paint with Olympic Brown Stain #707. Fol- lowing considerable discussion, the hearing was closed at 9:45 P.M. bir. Jaquith reported that Paul McCormack does not yet have drawings; the sign for The Toad Stool is being made; Elizabeth Reinhardt said that the Battle Green is a National Register property so cannot do anything to the Green; Revolutionary Monument problem not resolved; and nothing new on the flagpole. Mr. Jaquith said that the Lexington Minute-Men sign on the Sanderson House has never been improved and that he proposed sending letter stating that this be done or removed by-April 10th. Mr. Jaquith re- ported that he has written to John McSweeney regarding disapproval of the Rainbow Girl's and Muzzey Junior High proposal for Bicentennial projects at the Battle Green. It was VOTED to pay the bill submitted by Barbara Gilson. It was VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Wilson Farms, Inc. with respect to changes in the dwelling at 626 Massachusetts Avenue. The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 P.M. Georgia H.
