A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held at 8:00 P.M.
on Wednesday, December 3, 1975r in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office
Building, Lexington. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman=
Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; Donald J. Shaw; 3. Lawrence Whipple; and
Associate Commissioner Oliver F. Hooper who was appointed to serve Por Com-
misaioner Thomas J. Holzbog who was unable to be present.
An informal meeting was held with F. William Smith concerning his plans
for developing the properties from 1009 through 1049 Massachusetts Avenue,
which are within the East Village District. A Site Plan of the properties
showing locations of the proposed eleven condominium units was submitted and
discussed. Then the units within the Eaat Village District were discussed,
except for unit ~2 (103q Massachusetts Avenue) and unit X11 (1009 Massachu-
setta Avenue) for which Certificates of Appropriateness for exterior archi-
tectural changes have been previously issued.

about two feet in rear of unit #2 - red cedar shingle

first floor and dormer - red cedar shingle roof - Mr.
Whipple stated that he thought the chimney was very
high with a wide cap and also that the leaded windows
on the front elevation are a distraction - he said that
he thought it would be more compatible if matched the
double hung windows ~ Mr. Smith said they would be
fixed or casement windows - Mr. Whipple said that he
would like unity in the front facade and do not have
this with leaded diamond pane windows - two muntined
French doors lead out to the terrace on the rear

Units 9 & 10: have decks with two car garages below - Mr. Whipple
suggested substituting wide cornerboarda at end and around
door for quoins and eliminate panel below witxiows - oon-
siderable discussion ensu®d concerning the quoins and Mr.
Smith said that the easiest solution would be to remove them
Stores one-half is vacant -foundation has been installed in the
basenwlnt so can remove exterior wall - will remove parapet
and roof and vacant half of store - will install new gable
roof - store front will be about 23' - clapboards will be
installed on new east elevation - new wood front with west
and rear elevations remaining cenwsnt blook - murstined win-
dows and center door to be installed on front
