HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-11-19 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, November 19r 1975r in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Tawn Office Building, Lexington, Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H, Williams, Secretary; Thomas J. Holzbogt S. Lawrence Whipple; and Asso- ciate Commissioners Oliver F. Hooper and Ruth B. Adams, Mr, Hooper was ap- pointed to serve for Commissioner Donald J, Shaw who was unable to be present. Roland Gubisch of 627 Massachusetts suggested that a copy of the Historic Districts Act be sent to each property owner in the districts. If this is not feasible, he suggested that a two page letter giving a brief explanation of the Act be sent, A hearing was held at 8s10 P,M. on the application of Gaetano Squilla.nte d/b/a Village Beauty Salon for a Certificate with respect to the erection of an awning for the store at 846 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application and ad- journed the hearing since the applicant was not present, Mr, Whipple stated that he would not like an awning on that building, Mr, Holzbog suggested that he be advised that the Commission did not like an awning in that loca- tion, Mrs, Williams said that she thought one awning could spoil the ap- pearance of the building. The Clerk was requested to contact Mr, Squillante and request that he attend the meeting on December 10th or withdrawn his application; otherwise the Commission would deny the application. A proposed Certificate for F. Tdilliam Smith with respect to changes in the dwelling at 1037-1039 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Vil- lage District was read and discussed, It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to F. Williams Smith with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the dwelling at 1009 Ntassachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. Participating in this decision were Com- missioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioners Oliver F. Hooper and Ruth B. Adams who was appointed +.o serve for Commissioner Thomas J, Holzbog who was not present. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to F. William Smith with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the dwelling at 1037-1039 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District, Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H, Williams, Thomas J. Holzbog, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioner Oliver F, Hooper. A brief discussion on the Cary Library tower ensued.
