HISTORIC DISTRICTS COHI~SSION
A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday,
August 6, i975~ in the Selectmen's meeting Room, Town Offioe Building, Lex-
ington. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Thomas J.
Holzbog; Donald J. Shaw; S. Lawrence Whipple: and Associate Commissioner
Amelia G, Samoylenko. Hrs. Samoylenko was appointed to serve for Commis-
sioners Georgia H. Williams who was unable to be present. It was moved,
seconded, and VOTED that Mrs. 3amoylenko serve as Secretary Pro Tem.
Mr. Jaquith stated that %energy, Inc. had withdrawn their application
for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection and dis-
play of a sign on the building at 7-9 Muzzey Street, which is within the
Battle Green District and therefore there would be no hearing on this
application.
At 8:05 P.H. Mr. Jaquith presented a draft of a Notice of Determination
disapproving the application of Grace F. Rowe and Rowe Chevrolet for a Cer-
tifioate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection and display of a
new free-standing sign for the premises at 37-41 Bedford Street, which is
within the Battle Green District. The Commission discussed their unanimous
objections to this sign. After further discussion the Commission approved
a revised Notice of Determination,
At 9x00 P.H. the Commission discussed the application of Consumer Value
Stores for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection and
display of a sign for the rear of the store at 1719-1721 Massachusetts Ave-
nue, which is within the Battle Green District. All present agreed that the
sign is not to be lighted. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to
issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Consumer Value Stores with respect
to the erection and display of a sign for the rear of the store at 1719-1721
Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Partici-
pating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Thomas J.
Hol~bog, Donald J. Shaw, 9. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioner
Amelia G. Samoylenko,

the building at 1620 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green
District. It was moved, seoonded, and unanimously VOTED to issue Certifi-
cates of Approval to Ruth NkCormack and Haryalene R, Dailey, H, Gordon
Buchanan d/b/a Buchanan Real Estate, Mary E. Washburn, and Carol Johansen
and Evelyn O'Leary with respect to the erection and display of signs on the
building at 1620 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green
District. Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur H.
Jaquith, Thomas J. Holzbog, Donald J. Shaw, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Asso-
oiats Commissioner Amelia G. 3amoylenko.
It was moved, seconded, and VOTED to approve payment of a bill from
Barbara Gilson, Clerk, for July 1975 for $97.20 (Postage - $.95t Hearings -
$22.75; and Clerical Services - $73,50).
The meeting was ad3ourned at 1Ot30 P.H.

A meeting of the Historic Distriata Commission was held on Wednesday,
August 20, 1975. in the Town Office Building, Lexington. Present were Com-
missioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman= and S. Lawrence Whipple. Mr,
Jaquith asked Mr. Whipple to serve as Chairmen Pro Tem.
Also present were Roland B. and Marion K. Greeley of 1359 Massachu-
setts Avenue and Martha Kineen of 4.Perey Road,
A hearing was held at 7x50 P.M, on the application of Myle J., Jr, and
Adelaide H. Holley for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to
exterior architectural changes in the features of the dwelling at 136x+
Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. Mr. Whipple
read a letter from Mr. Holley withdrawing their application, and stated that,
since the applicants had withdrawn their application, there would be no
hearing.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:58 P.M.
