A meeting of the Historic Districts ComsRi.asion was tasld on Wednesday,
l~rah 12, 1975. in Room 111, Town Office Building, Lexington. Present were
Commisafonera Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairmant Georgia H. WiLtiams, Searetaryi
Thomas J. Holzbogi S. Lawrence Whipplaf and Associate Commissioner Ruth B.
Adams. Mrs, Adams was appointed to serve for Commissioner Donald J. Shaw
who was unable to bs present.
An adjourned hearing was held at 7s45 P.M. on the application of
Depositor's Treat Company with respect to a change in the exterior archi-
tectural feature of the building at 10 Depot Square, which is within the
Battle Green District. William Asaro represented the applicant and sub-
mitted an imitation slate sample which he said xonld scat $7000.00 more to
install than black asphalt shingles. Following discussion, it waa moved,
seconded, and urminimoualy VOTED to issue a Csrtif'iaate of Appropriateness
to Depositor's Trust Company with respect to a change in the exterior archi-
tectural feature (installation oP Moire Bleak asphalt shingles Bird Windaeal
quality) of the building at 10 Depot Square, which is within the Battle
Green Diatriat. Participating in this decision were Cosenissioriera Wilbttr M.
Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Thomas J. Hol$bog, 3. Lawrence Whipple, and
Associate Commissioner Ruth B. Adams.
Following discussion, it was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to
issue a Certificate of Appropriateneaa to Walter H. and Carol G. Bergler as
an amendment to Certificate No. 74 C-52 issued by the Commission on December
18, 1974 with respect to changes in the existing dwelling at 22 Hanaoak Street,
which is within the Hancock-Clarke District. Participating in this decision
were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Thomas J. Holzbog,
S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams.
An informal meeting was held at 8:20 P,M. with Attorney David Murphy on
the sign Yor Roane Chevrolet, hearing for which is scheduled for Marsh 26th.
Mr. Murphy said that the proposed sign has been approved by the Hoard of
Appeals and would be an interior lit sign approximately 6 1/2" x 6 i/2" on a
poet ii' 10 3/8" high. He acid that the sign has the General Motors logo,
the word "Chevrolet", and the xorda "Rowe Chevrolet" at the bottom of the
sign. This sign would replace the existing free standing sign on the pre-
miaes. Mr. Jaquith informed Mr Murphy that the Commission dose not like
interior illuminated signs and also that this particular sign is on the edge
of a residential area. Mr. Murphy said that the Chevrolet Company would like
to have this sign erected but xould not take the franchise away from Rowe
Chevrolet if the sign is not approved. He said that it would be a steel and
plastic sign. Mr. Jaquith said that this is the first standard tape high
sign other than gasoline signs to be submitted to the Commission. The meet-
ing was adjourned. at 9:10 P.M.
An informal meeting was held with Richard Michelson, Chairman of the
Permanent Memorial Committee, of the Lexington Bicentennial Committee. Mr.
Michelson said that the Selectmen had approved their proposed project a

year and one-half ago oP reproducing at ground level the foundations of the
Second Meeting House, the Belfry, and the School House. Roland Robbins of
Lincoln has done some preliminary searching and feels that the loeatiora~ of
these buildings can be determined, The Committee proposes to reproduce at
ground level the foundations in fieldstone with bronse plaques at each cor-
ner. He said that the fieldstone foundations could be installed in four
days after the locations are determined. He said that they estimate:.tk~e
Second Meeting House to have been 50•x44'. Mr. Whipple asked what would
be done i.f the granite pulpit falls within one oP the boundaries and Mr.
Michelson said that he would suggest moving the pulpit to a loesation ~+ithin
the boundary of the Second Meeting House. He said that the wording ort the
plaques anti looation of the plaques noting purpose xould have to be worked
out.
It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTLD to issue a Certificate
of Appropriateness to Mildred E. Whitney with respect to the erection and
display of a sign on the historio house at 1415 Massaahnsetts Avenue, xhieh
is within the Monroe Tavern District. Participating in this decision xere
