HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-11-06 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, November 6, 197~~ at 7:50 P,M, in Room lil, Town Office Building, Lexington, Present were Commissioners Wilbur M, Jaquith, Chairman; Donald J. Shaw; S, Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioners Ruth B, Adams and Amelia G. Samoylanko, Mrs, Adams was appointed to serve for Commissioner Georgia H. Williams who was unable to serve and Mrs, Samoylanko was appointed to serve for Commissioner Thomas J, Holzbog who was unable to be present, Mr, Shaw moved that Mrs, Adams serve as Secretary Pro Tem, seconded by Mr, Whipple, and so VOTID, Mr, Whipple submitted a painting of the Hancock-Clarke House owned. by the Lexington Historical Society which was painted some time between 1800 and 1830, Those present studied the painting to try and determine the type of siding used on the sheds, Mr, Jaquith said that the vertical boards on one shed do not appear to him to be random width boards. Mr, Whipple said that he believes random width boards would be better as he does not believe that they would have used battens in that period. It was stated that the siding used on the addition is most important and that information is neces- sary as to what would have been used in the 1775-1805 period. Mr. Jaquith said that he would try to get information relative to this subject, Then followed a brief discussion on the directory sign for the Massa- chusetts Avenue elevation at 10 Muzzey Street which would include the words "Cinema II", The meeting was adjourned at 9s25 P,t4, Ruth B, Adams Secretary Pro Tem
