HISTORIC DISTRICTS C0MtiCSSION
A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday,
October 9, 197, at 8:00 P,M, in the Selectmen`s Meeting Room, Town Office
Building, Lexington, Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chair-
man; Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; Donald J, Shaw; and Associate Commis-
sioners Ruth B, Adams, Amalia G, Samoylenko, and Sarah P. Harkness, Mrs,
Adams was appointed to serve for Commissioner Thomas J, Holzbog who was un-
able to be present and Mrs, Samoylenko was appointed to serve for Mr, Whipple
who was unable to be present.
Mr, Jaquith stated that he had received an extension to November 15th
from the Lexington Historical Society,
Mr, Jaquith stated that Phase 1 of the Town`s Annual Report was due on
November 15th and Mrs. Williams was asked to prepare this report.
Mr, Jaquith submitted one set of drawings from the Planning Office of
Urban Affairs, Inc, for the proposed complex at 56-60 Worthen Road, The
drawings show changes in the doorways to permit recessing the storage door
entrances.
A hearing was held at 8e15 P,M, on the application of the Fo11en Church
Society for a Certificate with respect to a change in color in the Church
building at 755 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village Dis-
trict, Mr, Jaquith read the letter requesting a change in color of the main i
front entrance doors to a black color in place of the existing gray color,
The hearing was closed at 8:20 P,M,
It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of
Appropriateness to the Follen Church Society fora Certificate of Appropriate-
ness with respect to a change in color in the Church building at 755 Massa-
chusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District, Participating
in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams,
Donald J. Shaw, and Associate Commissioners Ruth B, Adams and Amalia G,
Samoylenko.
Mr, Jaquith then submitted plans for alterations to the dwelling at 22
Hancock Street and stated that they are doing a lot of renovating inside and
want to relocate a door and change several windows, A hearing on this appli-
cation is scheduled for October 30th,
Mr, Jaquith then appointed Mrs, Harkness to serve for him on the next
hearing, Mrs, Samoylenko moved, seconded by Mrs. Adams, and so VOTED that
Mr, Shaw serve as Chairman Pro Tem, An adjourned hearing was held at 8:30 PM
on the application of F. William Smith for a Certificate with respect to
changes in color in condominium dwelling units nos, 1 through 4 being erected
under Certificate of Appropriateness No, 74 C-10 issued April i7, I97k on the
premises at 1505 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern Dis-
trict, Samples of the colors were submitted, The hearing was adjourned at
8:45 P,M,

It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of
Appropriateness to F, William Smith with respect to changes in color in con-
dominium dwelling units nos, 1, 2, 3, and 4 being erected under Certificate
of Appropriateness No, 74 C-10 issued April 17, 1974 on the premises at 1505
Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern District, Partici-
pating in this decision were Commissioners Donald J. Shaw, Georgia H, Williams,
and Associate Commissioners Ruth B, Adams, Amalia G. Samoylenko, and Sarah P,
Harkness,
Mr, Jaquith resumed his seat. Mrs, Williams withdrew and Mrs, Harkness
was appointed to serve for Mrs, Williams who was unable to sit on the next
hearing,
An adjourned hearing was held at 9s45 P,M, on the application of the
Lexington Historical Society for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect
to the erection of a wing addition to the Hancock-Clarke House as relocated
on the premises at 36 Hancock Street, which is within the Hancock-Clarke Dis-
trict, Plans for the addition were submitted and discussion followed, The
addition has asbestos roof shingles, Mr, Jaquith said that he feels the roof
shingles should be wood impregnated shingles if possible, The hearing was
adjourned at 1Os15 P.M,
Mrs, Williams resumed her seat,
Mr, Jaquith submitted two bills as followsa Barbara Gilson, Clerk, for
September 1974 for $65,50 ($2,50 for postage and stamps; $24,00 for meetings;
and $39.00 for clerical services) and Hancock Press for $121,70 for 1000 10~
stamped envelopes, It was moved, seconded, and VOTED to approve payment of
these bills,
Mr, Jaquith stated that applications have been received from James C,
and Robin D. Orr of 1 Oakland Street and Peter S, and Maria W. Nelson of 3
Oakland Street for fencing on the rear of their properties, Hearings on the
two applications were scheduled for November 13th,
