HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-08-28 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, August 28, 1974, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lex- ington, Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H, Williams, Secretary; Donald J, Shaw; S, Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Com- missioners Oliver F, Hooper and Amelia G. Samoylenko, Mr, Hooper was appointed to serve for Commissioner Thomas J, Holzbog who was unable to be present, Mr, Shaw moved, seconded by Mr, Whipple, and unanimously VOTID that a Certificate of Appropriateness be issued to Jean-Alain Dupon d/b/a Le Belle- cour Restaurant with respect to the erection and display of a shadow box for the restaurant at 10 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Donald J. Shaw, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioner Oliver F, Hooper, A hearing was held at 755 P,M, on the application of Raymond Edward Straub for a Certificate with respect to the erection aryl display of a sign for the store at 3 Mariam Street, which is within the Battle Green District, Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application and stated that a problem had arisen after Certificate No, 74 C-18 had been issued for a sign with the legend "Straub - Swetzoff" for this location, Three scale drawings of the new sign were submitted, The hearing was closed at 8:00 P,M. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTID to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Raymond Edward Straub with respect to the erection and dis- play of a sign for the store at 3 Mariam Street, which is within the Battle Green District, Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Donald J. Shaw, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Asso- ciate Commissioner Oliver F. Hooper, ~I A hearing was held at 8x05 P.M, on the application of Florence C. Carroll fora Certificate with respect to the erection of a fence on the premises at 15-17 Muzzey Street, which are within the Battle Green District, Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application, Mrs, Carroll submitted three plot plans showing location of the proposed fence which is to run from the boundary line at 19 Muzzey Street to the garage at the rear of the property where it will tie into the end of the garage, This will be a 6' wooden stockade fence, left to weather in its natural state to match the fence approved for 19 Muzzey Street, The hearing was closed at 8s10 P,M, Associate Commissioner Amelia G. Samoylenko was appointed to serve for Commissioner Georgia H. Williams who was unable to serve on the application of the Lexington Historical Society for a Permit for Removal of the Hancock- Clarke House, Mr, Jaquith stated that four members were sitting who were not officers of the Lexington Historical Society and one member who is an officer was sitting, He asked if there were any objections to Commissioner Whipple sitting on this application and, hearing none, declared that Mr, Whipple could serve, It was moved, seconded, and VOTED to issue a Permit for Removal to the Lexington Historical Society with respect to the removal of the Hancock-Clarke House from its present location on the premises at 35 Hancock Street to the location on the premises at 36 Hancock Street which it occupied in 1775 and from which it was moved in 1896 to the present location; both of said premises are within the Hancock-Clarke District. Samoylenko, and Commissioner S. Lawrence Whipple who abstained from voting, Commissioner Georgia. H. Williams resumed her seat, A hearing was held at 8:20 P.M. on the application of James H „ Jr, and Patricia S, Gilmour for a Certificate with respect to the erection of a fence on the premises at 3 Slocum Road, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application, Dr, Gilmour submitted three scale drawings of the property showing location of the proposed fence and photographs showing existing stockade fence, He stated that the new fence would match the existing fence, would be 4' in height at the garage, would be 5' in height at its intersection with the existing fence, and would be left to weather in its natural state, George and Carolene Peeler of 8 Slocum Road stated that the neighbors all approved of the Gilmours' proposed fence, The hearing was closed at 8a45 P,M, Mrs, Williams stated that the house across from Locust Avenue had been painted a mustard gold color and added that it looked well, Associate Commissioner Amelia G. Samoylenko was appointed to serve for Commissioner Georgia H. Williams, It was moved, seconded, and VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to the Lexington Historical Society with re- spect to the erection of a foundation on the premises at 36 Hancock Street and moving the Hancock-Clarke House to said premises, the premises being within the Hancock-Clarke District, Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith and Donald J. Shaw, Associate Commissioners Oliver F, Hooper and Amelia G. Samoylenko, and Commissioner S. Lawrence Whipple who abstained from voting, Commissioner Georgia H, Williams resumed her seat, It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Florence C. Carroll with respect to the erection of a fence on the premises at 15-1q Muzzey Street, which are within the Battle Green Dis- trict, Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Donald J, Shaw, S. Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Com- missioner Oliver F, Hooper, It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to James H „ Jr, and Patricia S, Gilmour with respect to the erection of a fence on the premises at 3 Slocum Road, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M, Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Donald J. Shaw, S, Lawrence Whipple, and Associate Commissioner Oliver F. Hooper.
