HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-07-31 _ _ _ _ _ _ r, ti HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, July 31, 197, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexing- ton, Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Donald J. Shaw; S, Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioners Ruth B. Adams and Amelia G, Samoylenko, Mrs, Adams was appointed to serve for Commissioner Thomas J. Holzbog who was unable to be present and Mrs, Samoylenko was appointed to serve for Commissioner Georgia H, Williams who was unable to serve, Mr, Whipple moved that Mrs, Samoylenko serve as Secretary Pro Tem, seconded, and so VOTED. A hearing was held at 7s55 P.M, on the application of The County Bank, N,A, for Certificates of Appropriateness with respect to changes in legends of signs at 1822 Massachusetts Avenue and 20 Worthen Road, which are within the Battle Green District. Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application. Frederick B, James, Executive Vice President and Treasurer of the Lexington Trust Company; Paul Maniff, Vice President of The County Banks and John Gonnors of Mack Advertising Inc, represented the applicant, Mr, Connors sub- mitted three scale drawings of each sign and said that the style of lettering proposed was the same style as used for all County Banks. The sign for the Worthen Road Bank is to be centered on the existing sign backboard and the letters are to be raised black plexiglas letters, The letters on the free standing sign in front of the Bank at 1822 Massachusetts Avenue will be painted black letters, Following discussion, it was agreed that the words "County" and "Bank" would be raised six inches higher than shown in the draw- ing. The Chairman polled the members and all ware in favor of approving the application, The hearing was closed at Ss20 P.M. A hearing was held at 8x25 P,M. on the application of Minute Man Fark Realty Trust fora Certificate with respect to the erection of two bronze plaques on the building bounded by Massachusetts Avenue, Depot Square, Meriam Street, and Depot Place, which is within the Battle Green District, Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application, Three scale drawings of the plaques and photographs showing proposed location of each plaque were sub- mitted, The plaques are to be centered horizontally on the pier and the bot- tom of the plaques are to be not less than 4'6" from the sidewalk. The plaques will have a matte brown background, The hearing was closed at 8s~+0 P,M. A hearing was held at 8s50 P,M. on the application of Equity Realty Inc, for a Certificate with respect to the erection and display of a sign on the parking lot elevation of the building at 10 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application, He then stated that there was a technical problem involved in that the owner of the building was sitting and asked if there were any objections to this. Hear- ing no objections, he stated that Mrs, Samoylenko might sit on this applica- tion. Ramon Alan, representing the applicant, submitted three scale drawings of the proposed sign, Following discussion, the hearing was adjourned at 9s28 P,M, • • HISTORIC DISTRICTS COIYIl~SISSION - page 2 July 31, 197 Mr, Jaquith then asked if the members had looked at the dwelling at 1,508 Massachusetts Avenue to see whether or not the blue gray color for the dwelling was satisfactory, Mr, Shaw, Mr, Whipple, Mrs, Samoylenko, and Mr. Jaquith all stated that the color was all right, The meeting was adjourned at 10x05 P.M. r~~ ~ ~ Amelia G.
