HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-06-26 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, June 26, 1974, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexing- ton. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H, Williams, Secretary; Donald J. Shaw; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Com- missioner Amelia G. Samoylenko. Mrs. Samoylenko was appointed to serve for Commissioner Thomas J. Holsbog who was unable to be present. An informal meeting was held at 800 P,M. with Richard Fasano, Store Planning Manager of Baskin-Robbins, Inc., with respect to proposed new store front and sign for the store at 1729 Massachvaetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District, Mr. Fasano submitted drawing sharti.ng proposed store front arm sign. He stated that they plan to install white siding at the bottom of the store front and also behind the sign, He said that the letters of the sign would be plastic type rounded letters. Mr. Whipple said that they should accent either the wood, brick, or limestone currently on the store front, Mrs. Samoylenko suggested installation of brick below the windows and Mr. Fasano said that they did not want to install brick but that they could use wood alapboa.rds. He stated that the door would be recessed. Following considerable discussion, it was decided that the proposed plans would show wood panels below the windows and that the two store windows would be wood windows with solid permanent muntins rather than large commercial glass store windows. It was also decided that the door would have permanent wood muntins. Mr. Jaquith stated that he had received an extension to September 6, 1974 from the Planning Office of Urban Affairs on their proposed 16 unit townhouse type development at g5 Worthen Road, Mrs. Williams mentioned that the Soottish Rite had erected 14 or more shielded lights around the front of their building and said that these are very unattractive. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to approve payment of the June 1974 bill to be submitted by Barbara Gilson, Clerk.
