HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-06-12 ~ HISTORIC DISTRICTS CO1~II4CSSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday, June 12, 197w, in the Se2eatmen"s Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexing- ton, Present were Conmaissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Georgia H. Williams, Secretary; Thomas J. Holzbog; Donald J. Shaw; and S. Lawrence Whipple. A hearing was held at 7a55 P.M, on the application of Raymond Edward Straub for a Certificate with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the store at 3 Meriam Street, which is within the Battle Green District, Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application, Three scale drawings of the sign bearing the legend "Straub Swetsoff" were submitted, The hearing was closed at 8x10 P.M. A hearing was held at 8x10 P.M. on the application of John E, and Marianne S. Pearson for a Certificate with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the dwelling at 16 Belfry Terrace, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr, Jaquith read the legal notice and application, Mr, Jaquith stated that this matter has been under consideration and that one section of the porch is visible from Forest Street. Mr, Pearson submitted three scale drawings of the proposed changes and photographs of the dwelling and porch which will be 18' x 12' and will match the style of the dwelling. John Deutch of 6 Belfry T®rrace said that he feels this will be an imprrnr®- ment and he is in favor of the changes, The hearing was closed at 8x20 P,M, Roman Garulay of Seasons Four submitted three copies of the proposed sign acid three copies of each proposed removable panel for the store at 1265 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. Mr, Jaquith stated that h® has received a letter from The First Baptist Church withdrawing their application for a Certificate with respect to the in- stallation of a parking area on the premises at i580 Massaohusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr, Jaquith stated that he has hearri nothing from the Planning Council for Urban Affairs concerning their application for 16 units of low-moderate income housing on property currently belonging to St. Brigid's Church and that this application expires on June 29th so that action will have to be taken at the meeting on June 26th unless an extension is received. Mr, Jaquith stated that he has received a letter from Baskin-Robbins Inc, regarding changes in the store front and the exec- r tion and display of a sign for the store at 1729 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District, Tao hearings were held at 8a45 P. M. on the application of Jesse tiraham, Inc, for a Certificate with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the store at 10 Muzsey Street and from Le Bellecour Restaurant for a Certifi- cate with respect to the ®rection of a shadow box beside the doorway entrance to the restaurant at 10 Muz$ey Street, which premises are within the Battle Green District, Amelia G. Samoylenko submitted three scale drawings of the sign for Jesse Graham, Ina, and also three scale drawings of the proposed shadow box, Following discussion, the hearing was closed at 9a10 P.M. HISTORIC DISTRICTS COP4~ICSSIQN -page 2 June 12, 197 A hearing was held at 9s10 P,M. on the application of Richard W, Crooke anti John Reichheld, Trustees of Fourteen Muzzey Realty Trust, fora Certifi- cate with respect to change in color of the building at 14 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Following discussion, it was de- cided that the body of the house, trim, doors, and storm sash of the second floor windows would lee painted a darkish green. The hearing was closed at 9 s 50 P, M. An informal meeting was held at 9s50 P,M. with Donald Wilson regarding the dwelling at 620 Massachusetts Avenue. Mr, Wilson said that they propose to remove the skylight, reroof the dwelling, remove two porches on the right side of the dwelling, install vinyl siding on the dwelling and cornerboards, resurface the drive, repair the garage, and landscape the property, He said that they would either fix up the house completely or tear it dawn, It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Seasons Four with respect to changes in legend of the existing free standing sign on the premises at 126j Massachusetts Averrae, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. Participating in this deoiaion were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Thomas J. Holzbog, Donald J. Shaw, and S. Lawrence Whipple. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriate~ss to Raymond Edward Straub with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the store at 3 Mariam Street, which is within the Bat- tle Green District, Participating in this deoiaion were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Georgia H. Williams, Thomas J, Holzbog, Donald J. Shaw, and 5. Lawrence Whipple. i It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to John E, and Marianne S.
